Fixed Mindset vs. Growth Mindset: What are the differences?


You can either have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. People with fixed mindset believe their traits are fixed and hence they do not put in effort to improve their talents and or intelligence. On the other hand, people with growth mindset believe that if they work hard and practice they can achieve their best in life.

  • A person with fixed mindset avoids challenges whereas a person with growth mindset embraces challenges.
  • People with fixed mindset give up easily whereas those with growth mindset persist in the face of setbacks.
  • With fixed mindset, intelligence is static whereas with growth mindset, intelligence can be developed.
  • People with fixed mindset feel threatened with the success of the others while those with growth mindset find lessons and inspiration in the success of others.
  • A person with fixed mindset ignores useful negative feedback while one with growth mindset learns from criticism.
  • A fixed mindset person sees effort as fruitless while a person with growth mindset sees effort as the path to mastery
